Using freely available information via Google can still be a good source BUT it also requires you to judge the reliability of that information - so always check out who has written it, are ideas backed up by good sound evidence, does it have commercial bias? Find out more.

  • Books & Ebooks

    See OneList (online reading lists) for current lists of recommended reading for your course / modules.

    All ebooks, in OneSearch, provide online access from any location. 


    Books on all aspects of business and management can be found at Lancaster, Carlisle, Ambleside and London libraries. Use the Reserve option on the catalogue to have books delivered from other locations or if a book is currently out on loan.

    Use the Journals A-Z to check out if we access to individual titles.Use our electronic resources (eresources) to search for relevant journal articles, news articles and market reports. You can search across many of our eresource collections in one go using Onesearch or search specific collections individually.     Individual Journals for Business

    There are many journals you can use in business research. This list of the top 50 from the Financial Times will give you an idea of key titles. Use the Journals A-Z to check out where we have access to individual titles eg Harvard Business Review which we have in full text from 1922.

    ABI-Inform - Full text of 1000s of journals, reports and business news articles.

    Business Source Premier - full text of 1000s of journal articles, industry, company and country reports, Swot analyses.

    Digimap - an online service that allows users to view and create both simple and customised maps of any location in Great Britain using Ordnance Survey map data. Useful for marketing assignments.

    Gartner - IT industry reports and analysis - networks, systems, supply chain, governance.

    Greenleaf Online Library - an online library "of books and journals covering corporate responsibility, business ethics, environmental policy and management, responsible business strategy and sustainable development"

    Mintel - market intelligence reports for both consumer and business markets for the UK, Europe, China and more. Plus analyst insights and news for brands and products from around the world. Click on the ‘Schedules’ option to see what is available or use the ‘Categories’ option to find your sector.

    Mintel Market Sizes – This will give you statistics for market sizes, segmentation and market shares for many product sectors from around the world. You can use the selection menus to choose your sector or use the search box. Look in the Help screens to get the best out of this product.

    Proquest Asian & European Business- journal articles

    Proquest Dissertations and Theses - includes the full text of Masters dissertations and Doctoral theses.

    Sage Premier Journals includes a range of key journal titles for Business

    Sciencedirect – Access to full text journals published by Elsevier. Over 1100 titles are business related.

    Statista - 1,500,000 statistics on over 80,000 topics from more than 18,000 sources. Downloadable graphs and tables to use in presentations and reports

    Lancashire Insight - similiar to ONS but for Lancashire

    NOMIS - labour market statistics from the ONS
