Progression
Students with reassessment or retake modules will have this indicated in their Statement of Results, received by email following the appropriate Assessment Board, and in ICON.
Undergraduate students, progressing from one year (and level) to the next must pass a certain number of Credits in order to progress to the next year (and level of study). The majority of students commence undergraduate study with us at Level 4 but some students begin with a foundation year of Level 3 study. (Year 0) Make sure you know what level of study you are AND which version of the Academic regulations you are on before reading the information below.

How do I progress from Level 3 to Level 4 (Year 0 students only)? (1)
If you are on a 4 year degree programme entering via foundation study at level 3, you must have studied 120 level 3 credits and must have successfully complete 100 of those credits before progressing to Level 4.
If you have up to 20 level 3 credits as a confirmed fail and have successfully passed all other credits at level 3 you will be permitted to retake 20 level 3 credits alongside study level 4 unless prohibited by any validation or professional body requirements, if the timetable permits this.
If you have up to 20 level 3 credits as a deferred assessment or reassessment but have successfully passed all other credits at level 3 you will be permitted to complete the 20 level 3 credits alongside level 4 unless prohibited by any validation.
All remaining Level 3 credits must then be passed alongside the Level 4 studies in order to remain on course.
If you have over 20 credits to successfully complete at Level 3 you cannot progress to level 4.

How do I progress from Level 4 to Level 5? (1)
To progress to Level 4, you must have studied 120 level 4 credits and must have successfully complete 100 of those credits before progressing to Level 5.
If you have up to 20 level 4 credits as a confirmed fail and have successfully passed all other credits at level 4 you will be permitted to retake 20 level 4 credits alongside study level unless prohibited by any validation or prohibited by professional body requirements and if the timetable permits this.
If you have up to 20 level 4 credits as a deferred assessment or reassessment and have successfully passed all other credits at level 4 you will be permitted to complete the assessment or reassessment of the 20 level 4 credits alongside level 4 unless prohibited by any validation or prohibited by professional body requirements.
If you have over 20 credits to successfully complete at Level 4 you cannot progress to Level 5
You will not be permitted to carry any deferred assessment, reassessment or retake modules at Level 3 to Level 5.

How do I progress from Level 5 to Level 6? (1)
To progress to level 6 you must have studied 120 Level 5 credits and passed at least 100 Level 5 credits and you must have passed 120 Level 4 credits.
If you have up to 20 level 5 credits as a confirmed fail and have successfully passed all other credits at level 5 you will be permitted to retake 20 level 5 credits alongside study level unless prohibited by any validation or professional body requirements and if the timetable permits this.
If you have up to 20 level 5 credits as a deferred assessment or reassessment and have successfully passed all other credits at level 4 you will be permitted to complete the assessment or reassessment of the 20 level 5 credits alongside level 6 unless prohibited by any validation or prohibited by professional body requirements.
If you have over 20 credits to successfully complete at Level 5 you cannot progress to Level 6.
All remaining Level 5 credits completed alongside the Level 6 studies must be passed in order to complete your target award.
You will not be permitted to carry any deferred assessment, reassessment or retake modules at Level 4 to Level 6.

What happens if I don't have enough credits to progress? (1)
If you have failed to gain the required credits to progress:
Level 3
100 Credits of the 120 credits taken must be passed.
Level 4
100 Credits of the 120 credits taken must be passed and all level 3
Level 5
100 Credits of the 120 credits taken must be passed and all level 3 if applicable and Level 4
Deferred assessment or Reassessment over the permitted number of credits to progress;
If you have only deferred assessment or reassessment modules outstanding:
- You will submit your outstanding assessments in the following year as a Reassessment without Attendance
- If you have over 40 credits in reassessment then you will be asked to agree an Assessment contract with your course team.
- Submission dates and expectations will be noted on your transcript of results.
Retake modules offered over the permitted number of credits to progress;
- You will be made Part-time Retake student. You will not progress to the next level of your study at this time.
- You will complete the module(s) in full again and will be expected to attend and undertake the study in full.
- You will be charged a level of tuition fees for retake modules. This will have implications regarding eligibility for funding and for any accommodation contracts you may enter into. If you have any queries regarding the funding implications please seek advice from the Money Advisors.
Combination of Retake modules and Deferred assessment or Reassessment over the permitted number of credits to progress;
- You will be made a Part-time Retake student. You will not progress to the next level of your study at this time.
- For Retake modules, you will be expected complete the module(s) again and will be expected to attend and undertake the study in full.
- You will be charged a level of tuition fees for Retake modules. This will have implications regarding eligibility for funding and for any accommodation contracts you may enter into. If you have any queries regarding the funding implications please seek advice from the Money Advisors
- For deferred assessment or reassessment modules, you will not be expected to attend for these unless it has been agreed in any assessment contract you may have.
- You will be given submission dates and assessment expectations for deferred assessment and reassessment on your transcript of results.
