The library provides learning spaces, social and flexible areas, a wireless environment, laptop loans, reception services and the library. The learning resources have a particular emphasis on outdoor studies, forestry, conservation, forensic science and business and leadership.

Opening hours

At all times, access during out of staffed hours is via activated Cumbria card for UoC students and staff only, available from the Gateway Managers at the Barn. At weekends access to The Barn will be with swipe card only even during the published staffed hours.

The Barn Café is integral to the space and provides a range of hot and cold snacks and drinks.

The University Support Services in the Barn act as an information point for the University campus and staff at reception are ready to welcome you and to answer your queries.

We are able to give further guidance on a wide range of other services including, course information, disability and specific learning difficulties support, careers, counselling, money advice as well as academic skills, library issues and help accessing IT facilities, journals and catalogues.

If you have a disability or mobility concern, please contact Reception ahead of your visit for more information and assistance to maximise your experience. The Institute for Leadership and Sustainability is part of the University of Cumbria Business School based in the Charlotte Mason Building with post-graduate, research and events programmes. We are also the home of the Mountain Heritage Trust archive.

Study spaces

Study spaces in The Barn for use during staffed hours as individual desks are available to book online via bookit: There are two study rooms in The Barn with a total of seven desks.

The open access ICT communal space and further study space on the first floor of Charlotte Mason Building is available to students from 8.30am-5pm, with swipe card access from 5pm - 4am daily. The two study spaces on the first floor of Charlotte Mason Building are available to book online via
