Registering with the NHS
Registering with a GP / Doctor
If moving away from home, we recommend you register with a local GP as soon as possible after starting University. GP stands for General Practitioner, and is a Doctor that is trained to diagnose a wide range of health problems. GPs are based in Health Centres or GP Surgeries.
Anyone in England can register with a GP surgery to access NHS services. It's free to register. You do not need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number but if you know your number it will speed-up the transfer of your records.
How to find a Dentist
You can find a dental surgery that's convenient for you, whether it's near your home or term time address, and phone them to see if there are any NHS appointments available.
You can search for an NHS Dentist near you on this website.
Dental surgeries will not always have the capacity to take on new NHS patients. You may have to join a waiting list, look for a different dentist who is taking on new NHS patients, or be seen privately. More information on Dentists
