Managing References
Researchers are encouraged to use a reference management system such as RefWorks.
Reference management systems provide many useful features that can help you with your research such as:
- storing and organising your references
- generating citations and bibliographies in the style you prefer
- easily converting referencing styles to suit publication requirements
- dedulipcating article searches.
As a University of Cumbria researcher you have access to a free RefWorks account. This account will also follow you if and when you leave the University. You can export references directly from OneSearch, eresources (databases), and even Google Scholar directly into RefWorks and format them into Cite Them Right or another style as required.
Creating a RefWorks account is straight forward but see the RefWorks page for more help and support.
Mendeley and Zotero are two alternative reference management packages sometimes used by researchers. Mendeley is popular and has additional features such as the ability to collaborate with other researchers. The free edition has up to 2GB of personal storage. Zotero is free and open-source software for managing bibliographic data and related research materials. Neither of these systems are supported by the University of Cumbria.
