What To Bring
Knowing what to bring to university can feel overwhelming. You don’t want to pack too much, but you also don’t want to forget the essentials. Our “What to Bring to Uni”checklist is here to help you feel prepared and organised before you move in.
Alongside this, please make sure you read our prohibited items list. For health and safety reasons, there are certain items you are not allowed to bring with you. Checking this in advance will help ensure a safe and smooth start to university life.
Online Induction
Once you have accepted and completed your offer, you will be asked to complete an online induction approximately two weeks before your arrival, via the accommodation portal.
What is online induction?
The online induction will help you navigate key information, including fire safety procedures, building access, and essential accommodation guidance. This is important to ensure you are safe while living in halls and know what to do if an incident occurs. The online induction plays a vital role in helping keep you safe while living with us.
After completing the online induction, you will be provided with a QR code. Please ensure you have this ready, as you will need to show it at check-in to confirm that your online induction has been completed.
If you arriving under a short stay please disregard this information.
Payments And How To Budget
Accommodation Payment - Bookings (40/42 bookings, Term 1,2,3 and January Start)
You should be emailed with an invoice to pay during the start of each term. These come out in September, January and April. Once generated, you will receive a link to your invoice, which you can use to log in and make payment. This process can take up to24 hoursafter the invoice is issued.
Please be reminded that you will be unable to see your invoice until it has been generated and an email has been sent you to confirm this.
You will also be able to find out when your invoices will be generated via your booking agreement on the accommodation portal.
Payments with an invoice to be paid in £ sterling can be made here. Visit the update card detailspage to update or change your card details. You will only be able to see the amount once the invoice has been generated.
If you wish to pay in another currency then you can pay here - payment is by credit card or by bank transfer to local bank.
Please note that it isvery importantto pay your invoice as soon as it is available. Failure to make payment once the invoice is open may result indebt proceedingsbeing initiated.
If you have already made payment in full, you can disregard this information.
Accommodation Payment - Short Stays
If you are requiring a short stay, you will need to contact the accommodation team to organise this. After the accommodation team has confirmed your booking, you will be emailed with confirmation of this and details on how to pay via our Online Store. You will need to put in the amount manually.
If you need to be re-sent the payment link for your short stay please get in touch with the campus accommodation team directly.
Managaing your money - Support

Here at the University, we have a dedicated International Team who can help with a range of support, including visas, arriving in the UK, and settling into university life. You can find more information by clicking here.
Accommodation Essentials
Before you arrive or if you have just joined us it is important to familiarise yourself with our accommodation essentials.
Laundry facilities are provided by the university but do come with an additional fee.
Locations of the laundry are:
Ambleside: Basement of Helvellyn and Stockghyll Ground floor
Lancaster: Next to Waddell North Hall Ground floor
Brampton Road: Beside the entrance to Block B Ground floor
Carrock Halls: at the entrance to the halls.

This service is managed by Circuit Laundry, and they have many ways to contact them including, live chat, via phone or even email. All of this can be found on their website: please click here.
Washing machines and tumble dryers are operated by downloading the circuit laundry app or via the website. Students are requested not to put wet or damp clothes on radiators to dry but to use the dryers provided in the launderette.

Laundry prices may vary each academic year, but the current rates are:
Washers
Standard Eco Wash – £3.10
Extra Wash – £3.60
Extra Wash and Rinse – £4.10
Dryers
Full Cycle (60 mins) – £2.10
Last Blast (15 mins) – £0.60
Contents insurance is fully provided in University on Campus Halls of residence.

Each accommodation has a designated bike storage are:
Ambleside: Basement of Helvellyn and Wanfell. (also has kayak storage)
Lancaster: Nexts to Bin Shed (for the bike shelter code please contact reception)
Brampton Road: Beside the entrance to Block B Ground floor
Carrock Halls: At the entrance to the halls.
We really recommend making sure each bike is securely locked to the points provided. With additional bike cover included in our Howdens insurance, you can relax knowing your bike is well protected.
A few handy tips to help keep your bike safe:
Use a strong D-lock or chain and always lock the frame to a fixed point.
If you can, use two locks for extra peace of mind.
Take removable items like lights or bags with you.
Register your bike and keep a note of the frame number just in case.
