Report a Problem
Living in student accommodation is not always straight forward; you’re away from home, navigating independence and something thing do not go to plan. Problem housemates or problems within your student accommodation can arise. There’s nothing more distracting than issues within your home environment, so here you can find out how to navigate conflict and report faults.

Before you bring issues with your flatmates to the accommodation team its important you try to resolve any conflict first. Certain issues regularly cause problems further down the line; but if discussed up front with your housemates, this can be avoided.
Three of the biggest complaints that arise within student accommodation are:
- People not cleaning after themselves.
- People using other people’s food and items.
- People being too loud at night.
Whatever the issue, approach the person you have an issue with calmly. Communication is key within university accommodation and finding out if other housemates also have the same issues can help you approach the problem together. Try not to frame the conversation in a accusatory way and instead offer soultions and suggestions moving forward.
Often, the person may not realise their behaviour is offensive; if they do and they refuse to listen to reason, then you have to take the next step.
- Speak to the accommodation team: If you have attempted to communicate your issues with your flat mates, and had no response please accommodation team know and they can help intervene with: reminder emails, house meeting or displinary action.

Our out of hours support is avaiable via our security team. There may come a time where you have: a major mainatince problem, have locked yourself out, see something suspicious, or a flat meaning too loud. Having the security phone number saved on your phone can ensure out of hours support can reach you sooner.
