A self-sourced placement is any work experience that you find and arrange yourself, rather than one assigned by the university. These placements can vary in length — from around 50 hours during a semester or in a set block, to a full year as part of a sandwich course.

The Placements Team supports several courses that allow self-sourced placements. We use a system called InPlace to help manage these. It keeps track of where you're placed, when you're there, who your placement contacts are, and helps us send any important updates to your placement provider.

We’ll make sure all the necessary risk management steps are completed. If your placement is overseas, we’ll also arrange for travel packs to be sent out to help you prepare.
