Registration FAQs
Welcome to the University of Cumbria. On this page you will find some frequently asked questions about the registration process.
In addition to these FAQs, as a new student, you will have been invited to a Microsoft Teams chat to ask any further questions you may have.
IT and computers
Q: How do I find my student email address?A: Once you have activated your UoC login you will have access to all our resources. Have you done this yet? If not go to: https://apps.cumbria.ac.uk/AccountActivation/
As part of this process, you’ll set up your university account password and once this is done, you’ll be able to use your student email address. Your student email uses your student number and will look something like this: S1234567@uni.cumbria.ac.uk

A: You can reset your own password at any time using the Microsoft Online Password Reset service and your Multi-factor Authentication (MFA). See the MFA page for instructions.
If you are still having difficulties, a member of staff in our IT Service Desk will be able to help with resetting this for you. You can email them on itservicedesk@cumbria.ac.uk or call 01228 888 888 during office hours.

We have laptops that can be borrowed for short periods from our libraries and the Learning Gateway in Fusehill St.
We offer a discount on purchasing refurbished laptops and desktop computers. You can find out more about this here: https://www.cumbria.ac.uk/student-life/facilities/it-facilities/ If you scroll down the page, you’ll find the section called ‘Access to discounted refurbished laptops.’
You can also still access computers in the library and the 24hr IT labs on each campus.
Library
Q: When will I get my ID card/Cumbria Card? Can I pick it up on campus?A: If you uploaded a photograph during online registration your card will be ready for you to collect from your campus library.
If you are on a course that means you are learning from a distance (apprenticeships, Schools Direct, etc.) we will post out your card to the home address you gave us during registration.
A: Please check the opening hours for all our libraries here.
A: Yes. There are fixed computers and laptops available at each campus library.
Once you have completed your registration, you will be able to discover open-access computer rooms via the Student Hub (see Campus maps and info)
A: Each module has its own reading list in the module’s Blackboard site. One of the tabs down the left hand side of the site is your reading list. Your reading list syncs with OneSearch so you can access ebooks and request print books directly from your reading list.
You can also search for a module reading list by heading to OneSearch (link below) and clicking on OneList under useful links

You will need your student email address and password in order to access Onesearch and ebooks.
FOLLOW UP TEXT: To look for ebooks you can either click into Onesearch from the Student Hub. Or you can you go to Blackboard and on to your module site and then the reading list link on the left-hand menu. This will give you a list of titles recommended by your tutor and some will be ebook versions.
