Is there anything wrong with quoting an author directly?

There is nothing wrong with quoting an author directly, provided that you reference the quotation accurately. However, by including direct quotes in your writing, you are only showing limited skills to your examiner, whereas, if you paraphrase the author’s words and reference them appropriately, you are showing that you have understood the content of the literature. You must remember to use entirely different words to the author to avoid plagiarising and you must also include a reference to the author.
