Event Overview
JMW Turner's 1797 sketching tour of the North of England was his most extensive to date, marking his first encounter with the Lake District. From Borrowdale to Coniston, the experience was to have a profound effect on his development as artist of sublime landscapes. This talk examines Turner's preparations, his works and how, even thirty years after the tour, the Lake District remained a subject of interest to Turner.
