You will progress through a set number of academic modules per academic year, with professional competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours) via in-work assessment and portfolio evidence, depending on your course and its structure. We will conduct a Tripartite Review (TPR) in the first six weeks, then on a regular basis throughout your programme. This will be between you, your course representative and your line manager/mentor. It will be an opportunity for you to discuss progress, raise concerns and agree SMART targets for the next period of learning.

  • Off The Job Training (OTJT) Overview

Over the duration of your apprenticeship, you need to keep a log of your Off The Job Training (OTJT) These hours comprise active learning related to the role you are training for such as:

    • Participation in university taught sessions
    • Lectures including simulated sessions, seminars, workshops, tutorials
    • Study time during your working day in which you complete research, gather knowledge and write assignments.
    • Work-based development - formal or informal placements in different settings, work shadowing, completing tasks in work

OTJT forms are available on APTEM to complete and should be submitted to your learning plan for the corresponding month to be approved by the academic team. Please give as much detail as you can about work outside the university. It must be made clear in your logs how the work outside the university relates to your apprenticeship. For logging university time, simply pop the module code in. For anything else make sure you are clear that it is time at work during normal working hours and not a day off or your own time.

  • Tripartite Review Meetings

All apprentices must attend regular Tripartite Reviews Meetings (TPRs) with their employer and the University. Tripartite reviews are a mandatory element of an apprenticeship, ensuring that learning, progress, and development are supported, tracked, and evidenced.

Tripartite Reviews Meetings are milestones within the apprenticeship, and allow for:

    • A review of progress to date.
    • A review of off-the-job training, particularly workplace training outside of the provider’s control.
    • A review of the overall progress of the apprentice against their agreed training plan.
    • An opportunity to update the training plan (particularly if new training is added or removed, or the end date of the apprenticeship is changed).
    • An opportunity to discuss and resolve any concerns or issues any party may have.
    • An opportunity to provide feedback

TPRs can be held in person or virtually with each TPR being signed by you, the apprentice and the University lead any unsigned reviews will be followed up and reported to the academic and quality teams.

Further guidance on TPRs can be found here: Apprentice and Employer TPR Guide

  • Re-Registration

Annually, the University must re-register all students,  including apprentices, to ensure we meet our statutory requirements and maintain accurate data.

All students who are still on the programme on the 1st August will receive a registration email and link asking that they register for their course. This is a mandatory requirement that all students must complete to ensure that access to the University IT is not interrupted, and the release of module/degree transcripts are not withheld from students.

For further details on the registration process for returning apprentices please see Registration
