Welcome to the Physiotherapy Practice Placement page. The information here relates specifically to the practice placement element of the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme.

Within this programme students must complete a minimum of 1000 hours of assessed practice placement. The BSc (Hons) programme contains 5 core practice placements which vary in length from a 1 week observation and 3 week placement in first year to 6 week placements during second and third years. To complete the programme students arrange their own 5 week negoiated elective placement at the end of their third year. Students are assessed whilst on practice placement by a qualified Physiotherapist who is their “Educator” and assumes responsibility for the support of the student in their learning and for their assessment.

Physiotherapy placements are in a range of settings to reflect all the varied employment opportunities available once students graduate. Therefore placements can be provided in hospitals, satellite clinics, rehabilitation centres, schools and sport environments. These placements can be within the NHS and in private, independent and voluntary (PVI) settings. They are located mainly across the regions of Cumbria, the Scottish Borders and Lancashire. The aim is to provide students with a strong clinical profile on graduation, enabling them to work in all areas of practice.

The information contained within this site provides important and essential information for both students and educators in relation to the practice placement element of the programme.
