  • Classroom resources

Our libraries stock a range of resources for you to use on when in the classroom or working with children. This is known as the Teaching Practice Collection. These books, big books, kits and equipment are also useful when considering how to make your own resources for your assignments. You may borrow up to 30 items from this collection. If you are going on placement for more than four weeks, you can register for extended placement loans. You are also encouraged to suggest ideas to add to this collection using the Get More Books scheme.

To explore the range of stock in the Teaching Practice Collection, run an OneSearch Books+ search.  You can tweak your results using the facets on the right hand side of the screen; Teaching Practice should appear towards the bottom of your list of options. We would also recommend browsing the shelves; this is a good way to explore the collection.

  • Final year students

In your final year, you may undertake a larger project and need to research a topic in more depth. It is good practice to search OneSearch, then to undertake the same search on the subject specific eresources recommended on this page too. It is a good idea to search more widely on the web, for this, we would suggest using Google Scholar.

If you have found a source that we don’t have access to in the library, please use our Get More Books recommendation form to suggest we buy a copy. We may also be able to source a journal article or out of print item via inter-library loan.

Finally, if you are struggling to find the right sources for your work, visit our finding information page for advice on successful search strategies. Alternatively, book an appointment with one of the Skills@Cumbria team.
