What happens if I don't pay my fines?

Fines are only charged on items that have been requested by another borrower and have not been returned by the due date.

We give you 28 days to pay your fines.

If you have unpaid fines for any amount for longer than 28 days your library account will be blocked and you will not be able to borrow until the fines are paid.

If you have unpaid fines of more than £10 your library account will be blocked and you will not be able to borrow until the fines are below £10.

If you do not clear your fines we will ask Finance department to invoice you. The debt will then become a University debt and it may stop you from registering on your next module or from being granted your award.

Please talk to the staff in the library if you are having any difficulties paying.

Borrowers remain responsible for items borrowed on their library card until the items are returned. To safeguard themselves, borrowers should either check the receipt issued by the self service kiosk or wait until Library staff confirm that a loan has been returned and the borrower is informed of any fine outstanding.
